Bonding of materials with a totally different nature - Balance rate of two layers
Nihon Matai’s Original Idea
After repeating trial-and-error tests 100 times, we chose two types of resin from nylon, polyester, and urethane according to the applications, and we developed the two-layer hot melt system in which two different materials are bonded together at an optimal rate.
Problem Solved by Nihon Matai! → Birth of Elphan
Elphan is a product that was developed to meet the requirement for a hot melt adhesive to bond two different materials: nylon uniform cloth and the polyester mark.
The product consists of the uniform cloth, mark, and a hot-melt adhesive layer provided on one side of the mark. The hot-melt adhesive layer further consists of two layers: a layer for the mark formed with a polyamide-based resin and polyester-based resin, and a layer for the uniform cloth formed with a polyurethane-based resin. The result is an innovative base film that ensures improved workability and adhesion and prevents impregnation.
Products Using the Technology
Confronting the Wall of Problems
Lamination should have been conducted during the production processes without deteriorating the beauty of the cover paper of Fusuma sliding doors (scratches or wrinkles).
Nihon Matai’s Original Idea
For the requirement of production in bulk, hand-papering only results in limited production. To enable production lines by taking up the paper (roll), we decided to laminate the Fusuma sliding door paper and the core base paper.

Confronting the Wall of Problems
As a substitute for the conventional sushi container, our goal was to produce realistic products with a glossy surface and aesthetic appeal.
Nihon Matai’s Original Idea
By adopting photogravure engraving printing, printing that ensures aesthetic details and the original printing demanded by customers were possible. Furthermore, the combination with our own paper lamination technology enabled fully realistic products that do not appear to be a paper container
Problem Solved by Nihon Matai! → Paper container of ultimate beauty
In recent years, aesthetically designed paper containers are increasingly demanded, instead of resin containers, for delivery of take-out sushi. Under such circumstances, we developed products, following consultation between a paper container manufacturer and Nihon Matai, which can perform the fine gravure printing and has the paper lamination technology. Since the containers are made of paper, they can be deposited as general waste, which eliminates the need to collect the containers after delivery.
